“Wear pink and
make the boys wink.”- Lilly Pulitzer
What can I say, I am very partial to pink. And I actually think that it is so becoming to Miss Savanna, it has a very angelic quality. This lovely tutu dress has little details that make it so unique and elegant.
Miss Sarah was a superb little model and kindly agreed to several outfit changes. You can surely see that she did a lovely job, both the tutu skirt and the tutu dress look adorable on her.
I would like to extend my thanks to the little girls that came out to model these exquisite creations, I had so much fun, it was a lovely assignment.

“A thing of beaty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness.”- John Keats
I couldn’t resist posting this preview- I love the way a gallery wrap canvas is the perfect medium to show off a lovely image. With proper care, canvases have an archival life of 150 years, they’ll become a treasure passed down through generations.
Stay tuned for more images from last week’s tutu model session.
“Nature is the
art of God.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson
My 3 year old son has been thoroughly fascinated with all sorts of bugs this Summer. He has indeed become an expert catcher and is very partial to ladybugs. We have tried unsuccessfully to photograph one of his latest acquisitions, but they usually don’t stay still long enough for the capture.
Last week, while at the garden where I held the tutu mini sessions, I noticed ladybugs sitting everywhere. After the last session of the day, I located one on a patch of Queen Anne’s Lace. I sat on the grass in front of it with my macro lens and then just waited until the little fellow made is away towards me in a pleasing position- my patience was rewarded. I was literally inches away from him but he continued with his merry ways.
If you look closely at the first image, you can almost see a bit of me and my lens reflected on his back.
“I feel pretty, oh so pretty.
It’s alarming how charming I feel.”- Stephen Sondheim, West Side Story
Isn’t she so pretty? I loved this color on her, it was so flattering. Of course, the tutu dress was a dream, I love the contrast of the purple dress and the green straps, the rose accents are the perfect touch.
It was even more special that Miss Amber came from out of town on her 4th birthday to model it for me, I was so glad that she did. We had so much fun exploring the garden and capturing these lovely images.
“Prepare to be amazed.”- anonymous
Isn’t this the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen?! It’s like a party in a tutu dress shape. And Miss Savanna was the best little model for it, just the perfect combination. I love how the colors in the tutu make her beautiful blue eyes stand out. And she was such a little trooper to put up with me following her around the garden, even though it was the end of day and she was tired.
for a living.”- Steven Spielberg
My assignment today was a perfect dream- I photographed 3 little girls in tutu dresses in a beautiful garden. Even the weather cooperated wonderfully and the experience turned out to be just amazing. Can I just say how I love this job?!
The tutu dress and accessories are from Fairy Wonderful and this is only a sneak peek. I have lots more coming, but until then enjoy this one.
“We do not change as we grow older;
we just become more clearly ourselves.”- Lynn Hall
If you are a regular reader, you know how my littlest guy has long hair. I never felt the need to let my other boys’ hair grow long, in fact they had their 1st haircut just before or right after they turned 1 year old. After all, we just *don’t* have boys with long hair in our family, you can say it’s not part of our beliefs.
But I must confess I have been putting it off rather purposely with my youngest. I have been clinging to his babyhood for as long as I can, he is my last baby and it’s hard to let go as a mom. And so his hair has grown long, it became part of his little self.
I had big plans to document the event in its fullness, but he had a melt down and I ended up holding him on my lap while his baby locks were cut.
I suspect he found the experience slightly humiliating, he would not make eye contact with me. He’s still the same sweet little boy, only with a completely new look. And I think he likes not having to brush his hair off his eyes so many times during the day.
As for me, I’m still getting used to it.
“In all things of nature
there is something of the marvelous.”- Aristotle
I have been fortunate enough to acquire a new macro lens- let me just say, it has opened up my eyes, literally. There are details in things that you can’t see, and this is especially true for me since I have bad vision and wear glasses. When I first saw this bumble bee, I certainly did not notice how his little ‘feet’ were covered in yellow pollen or how his wings are veined like a leaf.
I am far from being an expert at macro photography, I am only just starting, and I am very excited at all the possibilities.

“A smile is a
whisper of a laugh.” [unknown]
I have been waiting to take my only daughter out for a little birthday session- she turned 10 years old last month. For one reason or another, we keep putting it off and sometimes you have to make the moment happen, even when everything else holds you back. And that’s what we did today, we just went and did it.
I love holding a photography session outdoors. You have the versatility of choosing your favorite place (or even several places) and ‘coordinate’ your style with it- she’s a romantic at heart, and her outfit, the colors, the parasol and the location all accentuate that, completely true to her character.
When I contemplate these images I wonder where time has gone- proud to see her grow into a beautiful and intelligent young woman, and sad to find the little girl replaced so soon.
And a timeless black and white:
